A new lysozyme fold. Crystal structure of the muramidase from Streptomyces coelicolor at 1.65 A resolution.
Cellosyl is a bacterial muramidase from Streptomyces coelicolor. Similar to other lysozymes, the enzyme cleaves the beta-1,4-glycosidic bond between N-acetylmuramic acid and N-acetylglucosamine units, but it also exhibits a beta-1,4-N,6-O-diacetylmuramidase activity. The latter enables Cellosyl to degrade the cell walls of Staphylococcus aureus, which are not hydrolyzed by chicken-, goose-, or ...
متن کاملA β-Mannanase with a Lysozyme-like Fold and a Novel Molecular Catalytic Mechanism
The enzymatic cleavage of β-1,4-mannans is achieved by endo-β-1,4-mannanases, enzymes involved in germination of seeds and microbial hemicellulose degradation, and which have increasing industrial and consumer product applications. β-Mannanases occur in a range of families of the CAZy sequence-based glycoside hydrolase (GH) classification scheme including families 5, 26, and 113. In this work w...
متن کاملCoefficient Estimates for a New Subclasses of m-fold Symmetric Bi-Univalent Functions
The purpose of the present paper is to introduce two new subclasses of the function class ∑m of bi-univalent functions which both f and f-1 are m-fold symmetric analytic functions. Furthermore, we obtain estimates on the initial coefficients for functions in each of these new subclasses. Also we explain the relation between our results with earlier known results.
متن کاملA New Family of Lysozyme Inhibitors Contributing to Lysozyme Tolerance in Gram-Negative Bacteria
Lysozymes are ancient and important components of the innate immune system of animals that hydrolyze peptidoglycan, the major bacterial cell wall polymer. Bacteria engaging in commensal or pathogenic interactions with an animal host have evolved various strategies to evade this bactericidal enzyme, one recently proposed strategy being the production of lysozyme inhibitors. We here report the di...
متن کاملProbing lysozyme conformation with light reveals a new folding intermediate.
A means to control lysozyme conformation with light illumination has been developed using the interaction of the protein with a photoresponsive surfactant. Upon exposure to the appropriate wavelength of light, the azobenzene surfactant undergoes a reversible photoisomerization, with the visible-light (trans) form being more hydrophobic than the UV-light (cis) form. As a result, surfactant bindi...
